Training and competency testing of digital forensic practitioners requires the creation of training and test materials on an on-going basis (e.g. annually and also for the use of new tools). We recognise that production of training and test materials will represent a significant resourcing burden for the laboratory.  ValiD includes up-to-date contributions from laboratories across Europe including unusual and challenging test examples. ValiD thus forms an ideal basis for the creation of training and competency testing materials. Use of which will share the burden and reduce the resourcing requirements on the laboratory. 

Most accreditation standards also have the requirement to partake in regular proficiency testing (PT) and/or inter-laboratory comparisons (ILC). The ValiD test material can be used as the basis for the creation of the PT and ILC tests, including for new tools and unusual devices.
